Girls Basketball: Garfield unleashes the dogs on EC

Published on

On Friday the 13th, Garfield girls basketball remain undefeated in the early season by defeating Eastside Catholic in a classic Metro battle.

The first quarter was back and forth for both teams, not really able to get their offense going but playing tough defense. For Garfield, Lena Most lead the bulldogs by setting up teammates and putting pressure on the guards. For Eastside Catholic, Amy Nduka was grabbing rebounds, blocking shots, and finishing around the rim. By the end of the first quarter the score was tied 13-13.

Tatum Carter added to the Crusaders offense in the second quarter by adding a couple floaters and good passes to set her teammates up for baskets. Garfield wasn’t going without a fight as Sophomore Emiyjah Carter scored a tuff layup through traffic to put the Bulldogs up by 1.

Garfield picked up their momentum in the second half lead by Senior Multisport athlete Sarah Lessig who forced turnovers and had some big layups down the stretch. For the Crusaders Amy Nduka was able to keep the Crusader. But in the End Garfield went on a run through the forth Quarter that the crusaders weren’t able recover from.

The Crusaders will travel to the Wolverine Den tomorrow 12/14 to play Bellevue. While the Garfield Bulldogs will also play tomorrow but with a home court advantage vs. a talented Sumner team.
