Football: The Fighting Irish overshadows the Bulldogs in a trouble-free victory

O’Dea gets their ninth straight win against the Garfield Bulldogs in a blowout win.

This past Friday night at Memorial Stadium, the O’Dea Fighting Irish continued to build off their momentum from their last game as they improved their record to 6-0 by defeating the Garfield Bulldogs 42-8 in a lopsided contest.

Entering this game, O’Dea defeated Bishop Blanchet in a blowout win which has been a recurring trend for them this season. The Bulldogs walked into the game with a four-game losing streak hoping to snap that streak and get their second win of the season.

O’Dea would start the game off right by scoring on their opening drive from a 3-yard touchdown reception by Giulio Banchero. The points wouldn’t stop there for the Irish as they would score a punt return touchdown from Sage Salopek and a pair of rushing touchdowns from Peyton Egan and Luther Hill. Garfield’s QB James Allison would score a rushing touchdown at the end of the 2nd quarter to go into halftime with the score 28-8.

In the second half, O’Dea scored two more touchdowns, finishing the game with 257 rushing yards and a final score of 42-8.

O’Dea’s offense did score all the points, but they were put into great positions to score because of their defense. The Irish’s potent defense held the Bulldogs to 7 passing yards and forced 3 turnovers making sure Garfield never had a chance to make this game close.

This loss extends Garfield’s losing streak to 5 games bringing their record to 1-5. The Bulldogs now have to regroup, fix their mistakes, and come up with a better game plan as they take on the 0-6 Bishop Blanchet Bears this Friday who are seeking their first win of the season.

O’Dea continues to make their dominance known in the Metro League, tacking on another win to their perfect 6-0 record. The Irish will continue their quest for the state championship as they take on the 1-6 Ballard Beavers this Friday.
