Girls Lax: Schiller fires Prep past EC in overtime

Seattle Prep and Eastside Catholic met again to see who would head off to the WA State Championship.

Despite being down 7-4 to Eastside Catholic at halftime, Seattle Prep battled back to make it 9-9 and force overtime, where sophomore Lynzie Schiller fired the Panthers to victory and book their spot in the state championship.

But it wasn’t all celebrations for the Panthers on the day. Within the first 30 seconds of overtime, Prep defensive midfielder Katherine Kaiser (Columbia University), appeared to have torn her ACL and had to be helped off the field. However, the injury seemed to motivate the Prep team, and they played with enough extra energy to allow Schiller to find the game-winner.

The rollercoaster of a game saw both teams playing with plenty of aggression, and things got a little chippy. One of EC’s top scorers, Mollie Hamilton, was ejected because of two yellow cards, which definitely took some wind out of the Crusaders’ sails and put them at a disadvantage, especially in such a tight game.

Prep will head to face Mercer Island to determine the state championship, while Eastside Catholic will have to call it a season and prepare for next year.
