Boys Lax: Mt. Si downs EC to continue hot start to season

Mt. Si and EC both entered the game on relative highs to start the season, but only one could walk away with the win.

The Mount Si Wildcats traveled to Eastside Catholic Crusaders Acosta Field to see which of these two teams could continue their hot start to the season. After a scoreless 1st quarter, the Wildcats pulled away in the 2nd, netting six goals and taking a 6-0 lead into halftime. Led by standout Luca Toldo, Mt. Si never looked back and finished out the game with an 11-5 score line.

The Crusaders were 2-0 coming off blowout victories against Ballard and Lakeside. Mt Si headed into the contest with a 4-1 record, coming off of blowout wins against Newport, Rogers, and Graham-Kapowsin. Mt. Si’s lone loss was a close overtime loss to Mercer Island (highlights below).

The Wildcats’ second-quarter dominance put EC in the hole headed into halftime. The Crusaders battled it out towards the end, even matching the Wildcats’ scoring in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.

Some big players for the Wildcats were junior Luca Toldo, who had an impressive 4 goals and an assist. Alongside him on the scoresheet was Cam Lailey, who chipped in with 2 goals and 2 assists. The rest of the goal scorers were Kendall Salvador Levi Heritage, Henry Erdman, and AJ Spence. The Mt. Si faceoff specialist Adam Garvin won them the game, who only lost 3 faceoffs the whole game and had 13 ground balls. A key defender for Mt. Si was Regan Roberts, who had many forced turnovers and ground balls.

For the Crusaders, senior Robby Shogren had a great night with 10 ground balls and 4 forced turnovers. EC’s Jacob Dahl and Daniel Chang both added 2 goals and an assist to the stat sheet, while Hunter Nelson had a goal and an assist, and Andrew Hembree had an assist. Goalie Caleb Ellis had some key saves to keep the Crusaders alive, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Wildcats at bay.

Mt. Si plays Eastlake this Saturday at 7PM, and EC plays Seattle Prep Tuesday at 6:45PM.
