All hope looked lost for Seattle Academy on Friday night as the Cardinals trailed the Eastside Catholic Crusaders 3-6 with only 3 minutes to go in the game. But within those three minutes, the Cardinals snatched 3 goals to tie it up and send the game into overtime. It was there that Seattle Academy then finished off Eastside Catholic with a goal in overtime to secure the game 7-6.
The Cardinals’ senior captain and D3 Hamilton College commit Griffen Bell scored the game winner against EC with a thrilling shot from 20 yards out in overtime, which ended up going right through EC’s goalkeeper Caleb Ellis‘s legs.
Eastside Catholic’s star player and captain Cam McColly led the charge on offense, scoring 4 goals. Although he didn’t win on his senior night, he was able to set some EC records on his journey, as he broke the record for most goals in one game, having 10 goals in the game against Peninsula.
In the end, it was a tough 7-6 loss for the Crusaders on their senior night. Ultimately, sloppy defense at the end cost them the game. The attacking by Seattle Academy at the end of the game was certainly an eye catcher, and was the reason they were able to come back so quickly. The Seattle fans certainty thought so too, as they stormed the field after the game to congratulate the players.
With the loss, EC falls to 6-7 on the season. Their penultimate game of the season is against Bishop Blanchet on May 1st at 8 PM.
