Preview: The Bearcats travel to Acosta to take on the Crusaders

In the second round of the WA State 3A Playoffs, the Monroe Bearcats head to the Plateau to battle the Eastside Catholic Crusaders.

This Saturday at 3PM, the Monroe Bearcats (9-1) take a trip to Acosta field to battle it out with the Eastside Catholic Crusaders (8-1) in the second round of the 3A WA State Playoffs.

Monroe has found themselves consistently successful, going back-to back-to back 3A Wesco champions. As their last two tournament games have been battles, winning 49-48 over Oak Harbor in overtime, then the following week winning against Bellarmine Prep 41-35 late in the 4th quarter.

As for the Crusaders, they finished second place in the 3A Metro Mountain District. In the round of 32, the Crusaders took a dominating win 42-20 over Mountlake Terrace Hawks.

One of the players to look out for this game on the Monroe Bearcats is senior wide receiver Mason Davis, as he is an all around athlete for the Bearcats with 34 receptions and 14 carries with 1,169 all purpose yards and 13 touchdowns.

Also watch for their senior quarterback Logan Manson with 1,575 passing yards and 21 touchdown passes.

Standouts to watch for on the Crusaders, senior running back Jeremiah Burroughs and junior running back Nick Jones. They are one of the best one-two backfield punches in the state.

Burroughs is having an amazing season, winning first-team All metro running back and Metro Offensive MVP. Burroughs has recorded 111 carries with 909 yards and 14 touchdowns (8.19 YPC). Impressively, those stats are double his numbers from this time last year.

As for Jones he has completely blown his ’23-’24 season stats out the water. His usage with the Crusaders has grown a ton. As he has recorded 53 carries for 509 yards (9.6 YPC) and 7 touchdowns.

As we start the round of 16 for the WIAA state playoffs, tune in for this great match up between the Crusader and the Bearcats.
