Metro Volleyball Top Finishers Dominated by Seattle Prep

Seattle Prep flexed its power last Saturday as the Panthers downed a talented field of Metro League challengers to take home the championship.

This past Saturday the Metro League Championships were played at Chief Sealth High School and the Seattle Prep Panthers dominated the day not dropping a single set, and ending the day off with a back to back Metro Championship. The Panthers were again led by powerful senior duo Delaney Dorscht and Gabi Smith who dominated the game offensively and also had major contributions on defense.

West Seattle took second place losing in the Championship game against Prep, while Blanchet took third sweeping the Eastside Catholic Crusaders in the 3rd/4th place match.

All four teams look to take their top finishes into the district tournament this Thursday where they will mix with KingCo 3A teams and play at Highline and Lakeside High School.

Although Prep was dominant on the day, the top four finishers all closely competed with each other throughout the regular season, with each team earning either a win or a set win over the others. As evidence to that: the Crusaders took down West Seattle in the regular season before West Seattle beat down Seattle Prep. But Bishop Blanchet also swept West Seattle just a week before postseason began. Needless to say, the amount of parity in the conference has made it tough to know which team (or teams) are true leaders.

Both of Seattle Prep’s Delaney Dorscht and Gabi Smith landed a spot on 1st Team All Metro, along with other top four team finishers, Avery Merritt (Eastside Catholic), Janie McCanna (West Seattle), Lucy Slavik (Bishop Blanchet), Maddy Conner (Seattle Prep), Lauren Wiese (Eastside Catholic), Sadie Miller (West Seattle), and Audrey Schneider (Bishop Blanchet).
