Football Recap: Lynx Roar to Victory over Lions

With two Week 1 losses behind them, Lakeside and Lincoln looked to bounce back and find their rhythm.

The Lincoln Lynx claimed a solid 42-29 win over the Lakeside Lions last Friday in Seattle to claim their first league win of the season. A second-half surge from the Lynx secured the result in the high-scoring battle, as the Lions were unable to cope with Lincoln’s halftime adjustments.

With both teams coming off losses, the squads were determined to redeem themselves in Week 2 and gain momentum as they move further along the Metro League season. The last time these two teams matched up on September 16th, 2022 resulted in a 31-14 loss for Lakeside. The Lynx hoped to repeat history when the two I-5 neighbors squared off this time around.

Lakeside was able to hold their ground in the first half, holding a slim 21-20 lead over Lincoln, but when the Lynx came out in the second half, they came out with a different game plan. The Lynx were able to find the weaknesses in Lakeside’s defense, outscore the Lions 22-8 in the second half and post the 42-29 final score.

Senior running back Efe Elaihos led the Lions’ offense with three touchdowns on the day — including a housed opening kickoff. Elaihos used his speed and versatility to keep Lakeside within striking distance of Lincoln.

Lincoln will play host to the Franklin Quakers (0-2) this Friday, as they look to keep this winning streak alive. While Lakeside still searches to find its rhythm, the Lions will face off next week against a Nathan Hale team (1-1) trying to do the same.

It’s all to play for in the Metro League this season, and all roads lead to Husky Stadium and a shot at the WA State 3A Championship.
