Football: Bellevue dominates Shorecrest in a lopsided victory

The Wolverines stomp all over the Scots securing a win in the first round of Metro League Playoffs.

Last Friday night at Bellevue High School, the Bellevue Wolverines crushed the Shorecrest Scots 48-0 to advance to the next round of the 3A Metro playoffs. The Wolverines used their relentless run game to overpower the Scots, recording 0 passing yards but an astonishing 461 rushing yards.

Both teams walked into this game with a victory the previous week as Bellevue beat the Interlake Saints 42-6, finishing their regular season with a 9-0 record and earning the top seed in the 3A Metro playoff bracket, while Shorecrest squeaked out a win against the Mount Vernon Bulldogs 36-28.

Running back Max Jones played a crucial role in Bellevue’s victory, kicking the game off with a 43-yard touchdown and adding two more long touchdown rushes in the first half, leading Bellevue into halftime with a 40-0 lead. Jones finished the game with 206 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on only 8 carries helping Bellevue secure the win.

Jones wasn’t the only playmaker for Bellevue. Fellow running back Ryken Moon, son of Hall of Fame NFL quarterback Warren Moon, scored a 78-yard punt return touchdown in first half and a 65-yard rushing touchdown in the second half, finishing the game with 108 rushing yards and two total touchdowns off of 4 carries. The Wolverines even had a defensive player make plays on the offensive side of the ball as their CB Bryce Smith scored a 61-yard rushing touchdown in the first half.

Bellevue’s resilient defense deserves recognition as well, shutting out Shorecrest and holding them to only 92 yards, with defensive ends Johnny O’Connor and Kaden Konner combining for 2.5 sacks.

With that loss, the Scots are now out of the state playoffs after the first round and will look to regroup during the offseason, hoping for a stronger outcome next season. As for the top-seeded Wolverines, they will advance to the next round and face off against the 16th-seed Stanwood Spartans on Saturday.
