The Eastside Catholic Crusaders hosted the Garfield Bulldogs for the 3rd time this season last Wednesday. Going into the game, the season series was tied at a game apiece going into this game, with a ticket to the Metro League championship on the line. As the two state championship hopefuls battled it out, the result boiled down to one final EC chance which was stifled by Garfield in the closing seconds. Garfield managed to hold on and win the game 59-58 and move on in the Metro League postseason.
This was a very tight game that came down to the last few seconds. Both teams were neck and neck the whole game. Garfield was knocking down shot after shot in the last quarter, and EC kept on scoring as well.
Senior Jacob Cofie had the game in his hands when he was fouled late in the 4th quarter with only a few seconds left. Cofie had to make the free throw to tie the game at 59. He missed the free throw with only a couple seconds left. As the clock was ticking, he got the ball back and threw up a miracle shot to win the game. Unfortunately for EC he missed the shot and Garfield barely squeezed by to win the game.
The Crusaders still have a chance at state and will be looking for redemption in the state playoffs. Garfield earned the all-important win and advanced to the Metro League championship to take on O’Dea.
