Over the past 2 years, Garfield and EC basketball have been in fierce competition between one another in the Metro League. Every game seems to be a close one, with either side winning by a margin of 10 or less. This year fell right back into that pattern as EC triumphed in a close game with a final score of 75-67, but how’d they do it? What plays did EC make to get the edge in this game?
EC kicked off both halves with powerful dunks, setting the tone for the premier clash, but Garfield adapted quickly to show their skills and experience. Only down one point coming out of halftime, the Bulldogs pressed EC, hoping to swing back some momentum their way. But this wasn’t enough to stop EC, as they made a handful 3 pointers from downtown and set up Jacob Cofie for several clean layups.
Despite chasing EC most of the game, Garfield kept matters close, making an impressive range of shots. But with 2 minutes to go, EC led by 5 points, leaving Garfield to try and make any play they can get. Garfield’s Sammy Taylor managed to steal the ball and lay it up for two and cut the deficit to three. But the Crusaders kept their distance, making foul shots and bleeding out the clock to claim their first big win of the season and establish themselves as a team to beat in the Metro League.
