Girls Basketball: Crusaders Cage the Panthers in early-season action

The Panthers and Crusaders clashed on the Plateau this past Wednesday to see who could claim an early advantage in the Metro League.

This past Wednesday, the Seattle Prep Panthers made their way to Sammamish to take on the girls EC Crusaders basketball team. In an intense back-and-forth game, both the Crusaders and Panthers struggled to keep possession and avoid fouls, but it ended with a 41-35 victory for the Crusaders.

With a slow-scoring first half, both teams faced trouble when taking shots. The game was filled with turnover after turnover with fast paced passes and aggressive attacks.

For EC, freshman Amy Nduka carried their defense with rebound after rebound and fantastic defending. This made it extremely difficult for the Panthers to find and make any shots. Senior Grace Renners from Prep on the other hand pushed the Crusaders to keep up their defense and was able to forge her way through to the hoop.

At half, the two teams held a tight game with EC at 20 points, and Seattle Prep at 18. The second half was just as lively with both teams leading and falling behind with their scores.

For the Crusaders, sophomore Olivia Wollum was able to find some amazing shots and help carry her team with points putting Seattle Prep on edge.

In the last 4 minutes, it was a tied game with tons of fouls called on the Crusaders giving away free throw after free throw shots for the Panthers.

But after a hard fought last few minutes, the Panthers were unable to catch back up leaving EC with the win of 41-35. Giving EC a starting record of 1-1 and keeping Seattle Prep off the board with a 0-3 record.

Moving into the rest of the week the Crusaders will be facing Garfield away this Friday at 7PM, and the Panthers will play Roosevelt at the same time.
