As girls Metro League soccer has now come to an end, we can see the players who really stood out and helped carry their teams. One player who is a prime example of this is Eastside Catholic School’s senior captain Hadley Hagwell. This postseason, she was declared the MVP of the Sound Division, and in a recent interview with her, we get to know her personally as a player and as a person.
Hadley Hagwell was announced MVP of not only the EC girls team, but also the entire Sound Division. How does an honor like that affect Hadwell?
“I was so excited. It felt so special to know that other coaches see and acknowledge all of the hard work I have put in and growth I’ve had over the past 4 years.”
Hadley’s amazing playing on the field was a huge component to taking her team to state for the first time in 10 years, and all the way up to quarterfinals.
On top of being such a strong player, Hadley is also a 4.0 student and has been throughout all of high school. How does she manage all of the sports and schoolwork at the same time? Simply put: She tries to combine them.
“Honestly I ice while studying and resting after games. Try my best to kill 2 birds with one stone.”
Hagwell is one of the most calm and collected players out on the field, and never seems to struggle with the mental preparation before each game.
“Going into group circle, I try not to joke around and instead stay serious. I work to try and destress myself before games. Taking it step by step and know that once I get on the field the nerves will leave.”
Soccer is a huge part of her life, and she isn’t planning on stopping. When asked about how soccer has played a role throughout her life, she stated how planning on a soccer team since she was little really built her collaboration and social skills. Next year she is committed to play soccer at the University of Chicago. With her positive attitude and amazing skills, it is clear this won’t be the last we hear of Hadley Hagwell.
