Bears Outlast The Panthers in Seattle

The Bears coming out with a strong start to the season as they beat the Panthers in a season opener.

Junior forward, Brooke Campbell and the Blanchet Bears outclassed Seattle Prep on Monday at Bishop Blanchet, posting a 68-57 win to open the season.

6’2″ senior forward for the Panthers, Grace Renner, troubled the Bears defense early until a halftime adjustment by Prep’s head coach, Talia Walton, to a 2-3 zone which slowed down Renner and forced Prep to shoot three’s, which couldn’t generate enough scoring for their team.

Campbell, who has become the rock of this Bears team has continued to impress with a 20-point performance on 60% from the field along with 15 rebounds, she was backed up by senior guard, Keira Blair, who put up 13 points on a whopping 83% shooting and 100% from deep.

Junior point guard Bridget Barnett was a key factor for the Bears success due to her ability at finding shooters, bringing pressure on the Panthers defense and posting 5 assists on the game.

This season opener for Blanchet toted the Panthers offensive capabilities and numerous scoring options, as well as their defensive strength and ability to adjust to a dominant post.

While it is early, this game will rightfully serve as an attention-grabber for the Blanchet Bears and puts them on the radar of the other contenders in the state.

The Bears will go onto play Chief Sealth this Friday and the Panthers will look for their first victory against Bellevue this Saturday.
