Flag Football Recap: Crusaders split their double header

This past Saturday was another doubleheader for the Eastside Catholic flag football team. The Crusaders had once another balanced weekend beating the Cougars in an amazing comeback victory in the second half.

The Crusaders starting QB/LB sophomore Laney Brandsma had thrown 2 interceptions in the first half then turned it around in the second half with a monster second half recording 3 touchdown passes and catching 2 picks on the defensive end. They took a trip to Memorial stadium in Seattle to take on the Holy Names Cougars and Lincoln Lynx.

In the second half Brandsma hit her first passing touchdown of the day to sophomore receiver Malia Gregories, to cut their deficient to 21-7. After the defense comes up with a stop with Laney catching her first interception of three for the quick turnover which led to a senior running back Maddie Brandt rushing touchdown (21-14).

As the Crusaders needed a stop and the Cougars are trying to close it out, the Crusaders come up with yet another turnover from underclassmen Taylor Tonkin who comes up with another interception to bring the crusaders back, then Tonkin goes on the offensive end and receives a touchdown from Brandsma to tie up the game.

To complete the comeback the Crusaders need one more stop and get a stop which leads to a tight end sophomore Hagley Delay receiving touchdown which gave Brandsma the hat trick. Crusaders win 28-21.
