Last Tuesday, EC Girls Soccer team traveled to Seattle to play the Lakeside Lions. Over the past 3 season the Crusaders have lost 4-0 or 5-0 each time. But this season the game was different. For the first time since 2015, the EC Girls soccer team beat Lakeside 3-1.

From the start of this game, EC held possession. While it took a little to get a goal in, they held onto the ball and made their way towards goal. Lakeside didn’t let this overwhelm them though, they continued to fight and get some tough attacks plays off.

Laney Brandsma propelled the EC attack all the way from defense, chipping in with two assists off corner kicks. But it wasn’t just Brandsma leading from defense, Grace Russell also found the back of the net with an pinpoint shot hitting top right corner to bring EC back to the lead after Lakeside had made things level. And Brandsma’s second assist allowed for EC to secure the win.

For Lakeside, Preslie Lampitt had a fantastic shot hitting top net allowing for Lakeside to catch up with Eastside at 1-1 in the first half, ending Eastside Catholic’s streak of not conceding.

For Lakeside defense, Mia Hanson had a great performance against eastside during the second half of the game holding off the outside attack. She showed off her aggressive kicks and sneaky skills moving the ball out the back and bringing hope for her teams offence.

Overall EC carried the attack in this game and was able to come out of it with a once in a decade win. Both teams fought hard and held an extremely close possession percentage with the two teams having only a 1% difference.

Moving into the week, Eastside Catholic will be taking on tough competitor Seattle Prep this Thursday at 4PM, and on the same day, Lakeside will be facing Garfield at 4PM.
