This week The Eastside Catholic Crusaders took on Seattle Prep. The last time these teams played, the Crusaders eased past Prep 45-14. Seattle Prep’s current record is 3-3, while EC is 4-2 coming off of a 31-10 win vs Garfield. Prep is also coming off of a 49-34 win against Ballard.
The Crusaders started off hot through the air thanks to senior QB Jake Tiryakioglu, who hit a 41 yard bomb to senior WR/DB Tyson Weaver — just a fraction of his 300 yards passing on the day. EC would go on to punch it in with a 3 yard touch down run and put themselves on the board. At the end of the first quarter, the Crusaders found themselves up 10-0 — a score that would drag into halftime of a defensive battle between two tough teams.
Prep struggled to make good use of possession to start the second half and coughed up possession to give the Crusaders another crack at putting points on the board. And on a long 3rd and 15, Tiryakioglu threw a 88 yard touchdown pass to Tyson Weaver. That made the score 16-0. On Prep’s next drive they fumbled it and EC jumped on the fumble. On 4th and 6, number 10 Asa Thompson comes up clutch getting open for a 20 yard touchdown catch. It made the score 23-0 at the end of the 3rd.
EC stopped Prep’s offense yet again. EC started the drive off hot with a 29 yard pass. EC marched down the field and running back Skylar Shute punched it in for a 1 yard touchdown. On the kickoff Prep gets their first points of the game with an electrifying kick return for a touchdown. They kick it off to EC and EC got stopped for a 3 and out which was one of the only times the whole game. On Prep’s next drive they rumbled down the field and scored a 1 yard rushing touchdown.
EC’s total yards were 433 to Preps 158. EC threw for 300 yards and Prep threw for 78. EC ran for 133 yards to Preps 87. It was a dominant performance by EC. The top players of the game were QB Jake Tiryakioglu and Tyson Weaver.
Next week EC plays Rainier Beach, and Prep plays Lincoln.
