The Ice Breaker Invite Track Meet at Issaquah High School this past Saturday previewed plenty of talent through the Metro and KingCo High schools throughout the Seattle area. Among the schools competing, Eastside Catholic, Bishop Blanchet, O’Dea, and Seattle Prep put the Metro League on notice with impressive performances across various events.
Eastside Catholic: Rising Stars
Eastside Catholic’s athletes showed their potential with notable achievements at the meet. Jack Huarte’s 7th place finish in the Boys Varsity 1600m race highlighted his endurance as he was a notable cross country runner for the Crusaders. The Boys Varsity 4x100m relay team, including Tyler Christoff, Bryson Ross, Dash Lamebull-Ingram, and Ambrose Marsh, showcased their teamwork and speed by claiming 2nd place with a time of 44.40 seconds. Ross also individually took a 2nd place finish in the Boys Varsity Long Jump, covering 20-07.00 feet.
Bishop Blanchet: Strong Performances
Bishop Blanchet’s athletes delivered strong performances across numerous events. Vincent Recupero placed 1st in the Boys Varsity 800m race with a time of 1:56.45 showing speed and endurance as a sophomore athlete. Mason Mandell‘s 3rd place finish in the Boys Varsity 400m race with a time of 53.25 demonstrated his sprinting ability. In addition, Mandell competed in Blanchet’s 4x400m relay team, alongside Ryker Demick, Declan Lamotte, and Recupero. The speedy teamwork lead the 4x400m team finishing 4th with a time of 3:35.27. In the field events Sam Merriman took home 2nd place in the Boys Varsity Shot Put, while Charlie Slavik secured 2nd place in Discus.
Odea: Consistent Performances
Odea’s athletes showed consistency and throughout the meet with multiple student athletes placing well. Ryan Phillips achieved 4th place in the Boys Varsity 400m race with a time of 53.26. Giulio Banchero’s 6th place finish in the same event highlighed O’dea’s standard for competitive sports teams. Seku Sanders’ 10th place finish in the Boys Varsity 1600m race with a time of 4:27.75 reflected his stamina throughout the mile. In the field events, Xavier Johnson-Mitchell’s 7th place finish in the Boys Varsity 300m hurdles showcasing his agility and speed.
Seattle Prep: Panthers Leading the Pack
Seattle Prep’s athletes were among the top contenders at the meet. They let their talent show, as they finished top 3 in many races. Liam Riley’s 2nd place finish in the Boys Varsity 800m event with a time of 1:58.90 showed the senior’s grit. Additionally for the Panthers, Jack Henzke finished 2nd place in the Boys Varsity 1600m race , and Hudson Atrosh followed right behind with 3rd place. Drew Velling acquired the gold in the 300m hurdles.
The Ice Breaker Invite Track Meet was a podium for Metro League schools shining left and right, with athletes from Eastside Catholic, Bishop Blanchet, O’Dea, and Seattle Prep all having strong performances. On April 11th, these schools will compete again at Nathan Hale High School at 2:35 PM.
