Lax Preview: EC prepares to host Ballard in season opener

Eastside Catholic plays their first game against Ballard next Tuesday. Let’s look back at EC’s 2024 season and how they will look this upcoming year after losing some top players and an assistant coach.

Senior captains Cam McColly and Chase Skillman graduated, so now, the Crusaders will look to fill their shoes by developing their young offensive players: junior captain Jacob Dahl, sophomore Danny Chang, and freshman AJ Beveridge.

Last year the Crusaders went 7-8. Their first game was against Tahoma; winning 11-6. Big players in that game were McColly had 3 goals, Chang, had 2 goals and 3 assists.

McColly and Chang were crucial for the season opener win. The next game the Crusaders hosted Sunset from Portland, Oregon. McColly had a game; he had 7 of the 11 Crusader goals. EC won in overtime 11-10, making them 2-0.

In the game against Penninsula McColly set a school record scoring an astonishing 10 goals and 1 assist breaking the schools record of most goals in a single game. EC won 16-4.

EC had an easy day against Kennedy Catholic. Winning 18-4. Chang had a great game, moving the ball around and finding good looks. He had a goal and 5 assists, senior Will Harbottle had a game as well dropping 8 goals almost tying McColly’s record.

In the last regular season game, EC played Lakeside at Lakeside. Winning 14-4. They made playoffs but lost in the first round to Seattle Prep, but that game was by far the most competitive the Crusaders played all year.

With losing a lot of key seniors to graduation last season, the Crusaders are going to have to find their offense again. They are going to have to rally behind senior Andrew Hembree, junior Jacob Dhal , sophomore Danny Chang, freshman AJ Beveridge, and new varsity Coach Owen. These players are key for the Crusaders’ season.

The Crusaders defense is loaded with talent like senior UAH commit Robby Shogren, senior Porter Willisly, junior Jordi Giacobbe sophomore Braydan Boone, and injured sophomore Ethan Wilhelm. This team has a lot of potential to be a solid team and contender this year.
