Eastside Catholic’s girls lacrosse team notched yet another win Thursday night against a strong Lakeside girls lacrosse team that gave the Crusaders a run for their money. The Crusaders have been going strong all season, coming in with a 6-1 record.
Lakeside played a slow and gritty game as they rained down shots, never relenting their pressure on the EC defense. This war of attrition style unfortunately didn’t pay off, as Eastside Catholic’s defense stayed strong and were able to snag goals with capitalizing counterattack. Elle Enselmen created plenty of offense for EC, scoring 6 goals in this game alone.
The first quarter started strong with both teams fighting fiercely and scoring plenty of goals. Sophia Stewards scored multiple points for Lakeside off of fast breaks and free shots alike. Lakeside almost made a last second shot heading into the break, but it was deemed moments late by the officials. The first quarter ended in a heated 3-3, making it anyone’s game.
Izzy Pew quickly scored the first point in the second quarter for Lakeside, but Eastside quickly fire back as Annie Crowson and Madelyn Algren scored right back. Things were staying intense as both sides struggle to keep the lead, but EC pulled ahead int othe half by scoring multiple points.
Eastside pushed their lead forward right out the gates in the second half, scoring multiple goals in the first few minutes. EC’s goalie Natalie Stevens made multiple saves in a row, seemingly securing their lead going into break But Lakeside again made another shot just half a second after the quarter ends.
EC showed they are a strong late game team because after a tied game at half, they brought it home in the last few quarters, scoring 4 more times in the fourth quarter, with a clean quick stick goal by Kole Razwick. And with more clean saves by Natalie Stevens for EC, they shut out Lakeside from the game, securing the win for Eastside, 18-7 EC.
The Crusaders will look to continue their impressive run through the Metro League Tuesday night at Holy Names, while the Lions will look to get back on track as they head to Marymoor Park on Thursday to take on the out of conference Overlake girls team.
