The Crusaders (9-1) and the Rough Riders (9-1) came head to head to finish out their seasons at Jefferson Golf Course last Thursday, October 12th. With the regular-season Metro League title on the line, it was the Rough Riders who came away with a slim 9-point win over the Crusaders– a total of 113 points to the Crusaders’ 104.
Despite their stellar season, Roosevelt actually suffered its first loss of the campaign the Tuesday before the pivotal match against EC. Roosevelt’s top scorers Mia Cluff and Reese Jenkins — fresh off winning the US Open 3-Club Championship — pulled their weight and contributed a total of 61 points to the team. Cluff shot a 41, and Jenkins shot a 42.
Overall, the Roosevelt girls all stayed below a score 60. The majority of them shot under 50. The Roughrider’s were determined to get back up to the first place spot of the Metro League, but with the first loss coming so close to the match against EC, it was unclear how the Rough Riders would respond.
The Crusaders were going hot into their last match of the season being undefeated through 8 matches. The Crusader ladies had one win on top of Roosevelt. Top scorers Nicole Koong and Kaitlyn Ojendyck had great efforts but just couldn’t beat out the Roughriders.
Ojendyck scored 36 and Koong 38. Together they contributed 70 points, over half of the team’s points came from them. Ojendyck and Koong’s valiant efforts were not enough to top the girl Roughriders.
The Crusaders ended their awesome season with 9 wins and 1 loss.
Roosevelt and Crusaders both ended their regular season tied for first place with a 9-1 record. Three teams tied for first place going into the metro league tournament next Wednesday, October 25th.
