This past Wednesday at Eastside Catholic, the boys soccer team saw their impressive five-game winning streak come to an end in frustrating fashion, as Seattle Academy equalized with a penalty kick in the final minute, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
After leading for close to an hour, EC lost some composure in the closing 10 minutes, as Seattle Academy’s increased offensive pressure led to a multitude of chances for the Cardinals. That pressure paid off when Crusader captain Eddie Davis fouled a SAAS striker in the penalty area, and the referee signaled the penalty spot.
SAAS’s penalty kick specialist maintained his composure during the critical moment of the game when he tricked right before scoring to the left corner as the EC goalkeeper went diving in the wrong direction. The dying moments of the match which silenced the home supporters and tied the score before the final whistle, stopping Eastside Catholic from achieving a sixth consecutive win.
Eastside Catholic broke the deadlock during the 30th minute through an expertly coordinated set piece which demonstrated their two captains’ exceptional teamwork. Securing a right-sided corner kick, Santino Miguel-Sassano carefully scanning the box before delivering a precise curling cross, toward the near post. EddyDavis ran the perfect timing through multiple defenders before jumping high and connecting well with his forehead to send the ball into the net. Eastside Catholic moved ahead 1-0.
The match remained intense from start to finish, with both teams pushing the tempo and refusing to back down. During the closing 10 minutes Seattle Academy increased its offensive pressure against Eastside Catholic by executing through balls and shooting from distance.
