Eastside Catholic Opens Season with Strong 2-0 Win Over Franklin

As the Metro League boys soccer season kicks off, Eastside Catholic hosted Franklin in their bid to lead the Metro Sound this spring.

This past Monday, Eastside Catholic began their boys soccer season with an impressive 2-0 victory over Franklin High School. The Crusaders maintained control throughout the entire match and claimed their season-opening victory with a comfortable performance.

From the opening whistle, the Crusaders maintained control of the ball while putting continuous pressure on Franklin’s defense. The scoring began when a Franklin defender accidentally deflected the ball into his own net to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. EC displayed consistent defensive discipline which allowed Franklin to have minimal clear-cut scoring opportunities to make a comeback.

Crusader midfielder Santi Miguel-Sassano secured the win after showcasing some quick footwork and composure under pressure. Upon receiving the ball close to the penalty area’s edge, he maneuvered through Franklin’s defenders with precise touches to keep possession. One-on-one with the keeper, Miguel-Sassano tricked the keeper with a crafty feint before sidestepping him to slot home on the empty net and make it 2-0 to the home team.

Eastside Catholic started their season on the right note by earning a confident victory with offensive strength and defensive control. The team earned three crucial points will build confidence within the squad and prepare them for tough games ahead. Up next for the Crusaders is a home game today against Nathan Hale at 4PM, while the Quakers hosts West Seattle just an hour later at 5PM.
