The electric opening game of the ’23-’24 boys’ soccer season, for both Eastside Catholic and West Seattle, ended with the Crusaders prevailing 3-0 against the formidable Wildcats, setting the tone for what EC hopes to be a successful season.

The Crusaders were playing with revenge left over from last season. West Seattle beat EC in both of their games last year. At the beginning of the ’22-’23 season, the Wildcats bested the Crusaders 3-0. The teams met again in the last game of a competitive regular season, where the Wildcats prevailed and ended the Crusaders’ season early.

This season, the game started fast, with a goal from Senior Cole Luesebrink who capitalized on a Wildcat defensive mistake and hit the ball into an empty net. EC rode the hot start through the whole game and grabbed two more goals through First Team All-Metro Sophomore, Cade Boehl and his club teammate, captain center back, Eddie Davis. The dynamic duo eased the Crusaders to a 3-0 win over the Wildcats.

Eastside was unrecognizable from the team they were last season and West Seattle proved to be no match for the young and organized Crusaders. The Crusaders started a team with seven underclassman and three freshman, Xak Mitchell, Jake Metson, and Brady Beauparlant. Despite the young team, EC was organized, disciplined, and agile. They looked to keep the ball and dominate possession through the whole game, and they were successful in doing so.

Eastside Catholic looks to continue the strong start in their next game against the Franklin Quakers on Friday 3/14.
