Boys Lax: Seattle Prep downs Eastside Catholic to continue perfect start to season

The Seattle Prep Panthers hosted Eastside Catholic to see whether the Crusaders could put a stop to the Panthers’ momentum.

After being held to a 1-0 scoreline at the end of the first quarter, Seattle Prep eventually took over its game against Eastside Catholic, notching an impressive 16-4 win over the Crusaders. Elliot Muska broke the program’s all-time assist record, and Callum Skillstead led the way in the goals column.

Once the Prep offense began ticking, it became hard to stop, largely due to their face-off success. After scoring a goal, the Panthers would immediately win the face-off and put the Crusaders back on defense for long stretches.

Elliot Muska grabbed three assists to become the program’s all-time assist leader with 88. Muska played provider for Callum Skillstead, who logged an impressive six goals. Prep defenseman Win Chandler also had an impressive game, limiting the Crusaders’ attack to just four goals, but also finding two goals and two assists of his own. The rest of the goal scorers were, Wyatt Hanson, Alec Greenwood, Brady Meehan, Teddy Phel, and Will Shigo. Early indicators suggest that Prep has one of the best offenses in the state.

Eastside Catholic found the back of the net four times thanks to Cade Skillman, Hunter Nelson, Connor Swedish, and AJ Beveridge. The Crusaders have a good, young core of players coming up through the ranks, but this game served as a reminder that there’s still a little polishing up to be done.

Up next for the Crusaders is a non-league game against Juanita, who should provide a nice rebound for EC after this game.

Now 8-1 on the season, the Panthers look primed to make another run at a state championship. The offense is firing on all cylinders, and the defense has kept quality teams at bay. The Panthers’ lone loss was to Jesuit (OR) in overtime, and all their stiffest opposition so far this season has been from non-league opponents. In league, Prep has been rolling teams, and the next league opponent is Kennedy Catholic, who has struggled to get the ball rolling so far this season. But after that game is a tricky one against O’Dea, who is 7-2 and two this season (the two losses coming against Curtis High School and Eastlake — who Prep narrowly beat 10-9). That game should be a good one, so be sure to check back here for the game recap.
