JV Football: Eastside Catholic’s Hard Fought Win Against West Seattle

Published on

Eastside Catholic’s Varsity football team sees plenty of attention, but its JV team is nothing to scoff at. With a 6-1 record in Metro-League play, they are going strong with a 3-game win streak. On the other hand we have the West Seattle Wildcats. With their record being 0-1, this game looked favorable for EC, but it still left lingering questions: Will the West Seattle underdogs be able to topple the second-placed team of the League, or will they be walking away with a defeat?

EC’s defense came out strong with not one, but tackles for loss, thanks to Brayden Boon and Gavin Bode, pushing the Wildcats back 17 yards. After being pegged back, West Seattle fumbled the ball with EC recovering. The Crusaders took their good field position and marched into the endzone, bringing the score to 7-0 in the first quarter.

West Seattle was not done with EC yet, as in the second quarter, West Seattle earned a fumble recovery of its own. This led to the first touchdown for the Wildcats, but they could not follow it up with the extra point, bringing the score to Eastside 7-6 West Seattle. Despite the visitors finding pay dirt, the Crusaders were undaunted — marching down field with first down after first down to get another touchdown, ending the half with Eastside 14-6 West Seattle.

Coming out of halftime, both teams devised game plans to shut down each other’s offenses — as neither could manage to put any more points on the board. It took until the last 2 minutes of the contest for the Crusaders to seal it — coming through a 4th down EC pass to Gunner Dark who took it 20 yards for the all-important 1st down. Despite West Seattle’s efforts to win the ball back, the home team hung on and saw the game out — a 14-6 win for the Crusaders.
